Text Box: BUSINESS 101  -  New Year’s Resolution Success!
New Year Resolutions are made by many people, maybe even yourself, each January 1st.  If you’ve made one, great!

You might also consider helping with New Year’s Resolutions for your employees and your organization through a strategic planning session, departmental meetings, or even one-on-one sessions.  January is a prime time to hold such meetings. Early in the year, people are more ready for change, optimistic and energized!

But, did you know that less than 10% of people who set a New Year’s Resolution will reach their goal? The same follows for success in organizations. So, here are seven tips for achieving that elusive New Year’s Resolution for yourself, your employee’s and your company:

1. Write It Down. It's true, writing your goals down makes them more achievable!

2. Commit to It. Decide that this is right for you and walk the talk. Otherwise, it’s just a nice idea.

3. Tell People. Let your family, friends, neighbors, suppliers, distributors, and even your competitors in on what you are doing. Knowing that people are watching gives you the incentive to perform.

4. Be Accountable. Define how you will measure progress, set milestones, and report on your progress.

5. Make a Plan. Be specific on what you are doing and what you want to achieve. The more specific you can be, the more likely your actions will follow your plan and you will be successful.

6. Be Realistic. Is your goal achievable? Does it make sense? If you tried it before, how will this time be different?

7. Believe. Believe to your core that this is achievable. Visualize the end result and see and know how this change will make a difference in your life!

Text Box: The Marketing Challenge
For many business owners, their marketing focus is on advertising, and for some it’s simply product, price, promotion and distribution, and for others still, it’s about networking.  Whatever your focus, it might be useful to step back and ask two big picture questions:
1. “What is a unique quality of our product or service?” and
2. “How can we communicate that unique quality to our customers?”

Ask and answer these two questions and you may be able to formulate a newer and better marketing strategy!
