Dr. Cynthia Beekley, recently retired Superintendent of Springfield Local Schools, is a valued community leader, a tireless advocate for youth, an outstanding character, and a distinguished educator in Northwest Ohio for 24 years.  She has been an asset in the truest sense to many organizations and agencies.

 

Dr. Beekley is a nationally recognized educator known for her innovative and cutting–edge educational improvement strategies.  A published author and speaker, she is often called upon to provide clarity and insight with respect to complicated educational issues. Dr. Beekley has presented on leadership and management strategies across the United States.

 

As a strong and powerful advocate of public education, she believes in the worth and dignity of every individual and takes seriously her responsibility to insure that all children in her care are fully prepared to realize their hopes and aspirations in an ever more competitive world.  Cynthia works to make college education an opportunity by finding sources to help students because she strongly believes in the value of education for every individual.  She is often quoted as saying, “The single strength of our community is the wonderful blend of diverse individuals who contribute their unique talents to enhance the culture of our schools and community.”

 

She served as a member of the Alcohol Drug and Addiction Services Board and now serves on the Mental Health and Recovery Services Board.  As a Mobile Meals Board member and past President of the board, she personally delivers meals in the Holland area.  At the Southwest Family YMCA, Dr. Beekley held a board of manager’s position for 5 years.  She serves on the Junior Achievement Board and teaches J.A. classes.  Dr. Beekley was the visionary leader who helped in the formation of S.H.A.P.E. (Springfield Holland Assets Partnership for Excellence), which is a coalition of Springfield leaders seeking to increase the 40 Developmental Assets, particularly those which support substance abuse prevention, diversity, spirituality, and respect.  As a member of the Leadership Toledo board, Dr. Beekley helped to develop the Youth Leadership Toledo program which is designed to develop leadership skills in high school students from all over Northwest Ohio

 

Dr. Beekley also taught educational administration at Bowling Green State University for two years.  She received a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and English education  from Penn State University, a master’s degree in guidance and counseling from Kansas State University and a doctorate in curriculum and teaching from the University of Michigan.
